Lonely Planet writer Bradley Mayhew explains why he loves Tibet. "For me Tibet is a uniquely spiritual place. Those moments of peace, fleeting and precious, when everything seems to be in its proper place, just seem to come more frequently here. Despite the overpowering pace of change and a sobering politician situation, underpinning everything for me are the Tibetan people, whose joy and devotion remain deeply inspiring. Tibet is a place that will likely change the way you see the world and remain with you for years to come. And that for me is the definition of the very best kind of travel."

Ease away your cares (and hangover) at the Blue Lagoon, gaze at the wonder of the Northern Lights, hike through pristine wilderness in the Westfjords; all with your trusted travel companion.

Lonely Planet writer Carolyn Bain tells us why she loves Iceland. "It's not a unique claim these days: I've been smitten with Iceland since I first visited. My visits were increasing, for both work and fun, but my cravings weren't subsiding, and I started to entertain the notion of moving there permanently. Icelandic friends gave me wise advice to experience more wintry conditions before committing, so in February 2017 I took the ferry north from Denmark. I sailed into Seyðisfjörður at sunrise on Valentines Day under incredible candy-pink skies, and my decision was made. I moved to Reykjavik from Australia later that year, and am now overjoyed to call Iceland home."

Hilltop castles and green energy, beer halls and luxury cars, Alps and edgy art – southern Germany blends thighslapping tradition with clear-headed modernity like nowhere else on earth. Discover this fascinating country with your trusted and easy-to-use travel companion.

Lonely Planet writer Marc Di Duca explains why he loves Southern Germany. "Is it the sap-scented hills and trails in forests Black and Bavarian, the Franconian beer and dark tourism of Nuremberg or the emotions stirred by the tragic Ludwig II story? Or is it a mildly envious admiration for southern Germany’s knack of producing cars that work, its galleries packed with modern art or the awe I feel for the German intellect as I face yet another devilishly complex Deutsche Bahn ticket machine (perhaps not)? I suppose it’s all the above and heaps more that has me returning time and again to this quirky yet level-headed corner of Europe."

Top Tips for Your Trip

 - Holidays such as Easter or Christmas aren’t good times to travel
to Germany. Things are often completely dead.

- Schedule some time away from southern Germany’s big cities to
sample life at a slower, more traditional pace.

- If you are not going to Oktoberfest, don’t even think about going
to Munich in late September when the city is booked up.

 - Make sure you are insured for any extreme activities such as
winter sports in the Alps.

- When travelling around Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg by train, put off your journey until after 9am when you can use a Land ticket giving you unlimited travel in either region all day for €24 (BadenWürttemberg) or €25 (Bavaria).

Here are Lonely Planet's TOP 10 things to see and do.

1. Munich

2. Oktoberfest

3. Beer Halls & Gardens

4. Romantic Road

5. Baden-Baden

6. Hiking

7. Nuremberg

8. Schloss Neuschwanstein

9. Salzburg

10. Christmas Markets

"We are always looking at ways to expand our industry-leading international route network to offer our customers more convenient options. We're thrilled to announce the addition of Africa to our global route offering," said Patrick Quayle, United's vice president of International Network. "This new flight will provide customers with the only nonstop service between the United States and Cape Town."

United's nonstop service between New York/Newark and Cape Town will decrease the current travel time from New York to Cape Town by more than four hours and provide customers from more than 80 U.S. cities with easy one-stop access to Cape Town. If approved, United's service between New York/Newark and Cape Town will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft featuring 48 seats in United Polaris business class, 88 seats in United Economy Plus and 116 seats in United Economy.

Korean Air launches Boston-Seoul connections as Delta partnership takes off

Korean Air has launched non-stop flights between Boston and Seoul.

The first flight, operated as part of a joint venture with Delta Air Lines, was saluted by a water cannon on arrival and celebrated in speeches by airline and government officials.

“Korean Air is the largest trans-Pacific airline and we’ve been eyeing Boston for a long time,” said the Korean Air vice president of marketing, John Jackson.

“It makes sense, with our Delta joint venture, to start service there now.

“Delta is growing fast in Boston and adding an Asia flight will help them solidify their position.”

“As a major gateway for high tech industries, Boston is the most popular unserved point from Korea with rapidly growing demand to Asia,” Jackson added.
