Insight Guides launches new 'alternative-destination’ trips to help combat overtourism

London, 9th October 2019 — Insight Guides, the premium tailor-made trips provider and travel guide publisher, has released a list of bookable travel experiences designed to help ease overtourism and champion lesser-visited but still spectacular destinations.

Insight Guides trips are created by travel experts who live in their destinations and create trip itineraries that include cultural excursions and activities. The local experts use their specialist knowledge of their area to create unique trips that can be customised by the traveller.

New trips are regularly added to the Insight Guides website and can be searched by desired destination, budget, and type of traveller. Once a traveller has picked a trip, they are then put in direct contact with the local expert, who will organise everything for them.

Now, Insight Guides has released a number of trips to help travellers embrace the idea of visiting alternative destinations instead of the usual suspects, which in some cases is resulting in negative impacts on the local residents and environment.

Franziska Wirth, Insight Guides Trips Manager, says,

“Overtourism is a problem for a number of places right now, and some cities such as Amsterdam and Venice are taking steps to actually reduce the amount of visitors they get. At Insight Guides we understand why travellers are drawn to these fabulous places but we want to use our expertise to highlight alternative destinations that deserve their time in the sun. By encouraging our customers to travel to lesser-visited locations, we can help them discover places they wouldn’t necessarily know about whilst doing our bit to help local economies and residents experience the amazing benefits tourism can bring. It’s a win-win in our eyes.”

The exciting new trips are intended to draw visitors away from busy areas such as Paris, Cancun, and the popular West Ring-Road in Iceland, and help them have a more relaxing and authentic travel experience in other areas of the respective country.

Boston - West End & North End (PDF Chapter) Lonely Planet

This is the West End & North End chapter from Lonely Planet’s Boston guidebook.

These side-by-side neighborhoods could not be more different from each other. The West End – formerly a multicultural, working-class neighborhood – was razed by ‘urban renewal’ in the 1950s.
