Kenya helps boost the black rhino

A black rhino relocation programme is underway in Kenya in a bid to expand the iconic species habitat in the country, and to boost its overall population. At least 20 rhinos from Lewa, Lake Nakuru National Park and Nairobi National Park to a sanctuary inside the community owned and operated Sera Community Conservancy. 

 Once a historical stomping ground for black rhinos, the Sera area has seen these beautiful animals disappear over the past 25 years due to poaching. So, bringing them back to the Sera area is a huge achievement, and this programme will be the first time in East Africa that a local community is responsible for the management and protection of the highly threatened black rhino.
