'Sleeping Beauty' found in a grave in Ethiopia

English archaeologists excavating the ancient city of Aksum in present-day Ethiopia, have discovered a grave containing a 'Sleeping Beauty'.

In total, eleven graves have been found dating back from around 100 AD to 940 AD. The woman's positioning and the artifacts found by her side—including kohl eyeliner and flask that was to hold the tears of the dead—"suggest that she had been beautiful and much-loved." The Ethiopia Observer explains, "She was curled up on her side, with her chin resting on her hand, wearing a beautiful bronze ring. She was buried gazing into an extraordinary Roman bronze mirror."
