The behemoth Airbus A380 - the world’s largest commercial aircraft - is capable of carrying 544 passengers up to 15,200km (8,200 miles).

But from next month it will be used by Emirates for a far less lengthy hop: from Doha, capital of Qatar, to Dubai - a journey of just 378 kilometres (235 miles).

It’s the shortest route anywhere in the world on which an A380 is used, with a one-way flight expected to last less than an hour. The plane could feasibly fly between the two cities 40 times before needing to refuel.
