Lonely Planet have announced their list of the most exciting European destinations to visit this year. Italian food paradise Emilia-Romagna takes the top spot closely followed by the Spanish region of Cantabria and this year’s European Capital of Culture, Friesland in the Netherlands. Closer to home, Dundee - a city reinvigorated in recent years - also makes the top 10.
With the busy holiday season fast approaching, this year's list showcases some of Europe's best hidden gems to beat the crowds over the summer months.
